Hi everyone! My name is Kaylyn Wallen. I am a small town girl, temporarily residing in the city. I am currently completing the last year of my Bachelor of Education with a major in Mathematics and a minor in General Science at the University of Regina.
I am from the small town of Margo, Saskatchewan. Margo has such a small population that the school closed when I was in preschool. This led me to attend Invermay School for my K-12 education. I was super active during school taking both dance and piano lessons, playing almost every sport possible and being involved with the Drama, Yearbook, SRC, SADD and Red Cross groups at school. When I was in grades 10 and 12, I was lucky enough to travel to Europe with a group of students from my school. This gave me a travel bug that I can’t get rid of to this day! I love going to new places and learning about different cultures and people! At the moment I have been to 11 different countries and I hope to increase that number very soon. I hope one day I will be able to create an experience like the ones that I had for my own students.
I always enjoyed helping and tutoring my fellow classmates in school as well as students in younger grades. This is where I realized that teacher might be the profession for me. When I became a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor at the Wadena Aquatic Centre I knew that I wanted to become a teacher and it led me to attend the University of Regina. Working at the swimming pool gave me hands on experience working and teaching children. I had to make lesson plans, use classroom management, assess and communicate with parents. All of these skills have been incredibly useful, both in my university classes as well as my internships.
I am a HUGE sports fan! My two favourites are football and hockey but I love watching and playing most other sports. My favourite teams are the Chicago Blackhawks, Saskatchewan Roughriders (of course!), Green Bay Packers and Toronto Blue Jays!
